Refuge de la Traye

Meribel, France

6 Bedrooms

Refuge de la Traye is the kind of place where you could easily lose track of time. Hidden in the Méribel mountains, this six-bedroom retreat sleeps up to 12 guests and gives you plenty of room to settle in together. You have warm timber interiors, open views, private dining and a spa for the quieter parts of the day. After skiing, there is no need to head back into town. Come home, get comfortable and let someone else take care of the evening.

YOUR STAY

You are surrounded by the mountains here, but the interiors feel warm rather than remote. Stone, timber and natural materials give the property a relaxed alpine character, with comfortable rooms where you can actually spend time rather than simply admire the design.

The six bedrooms make the retreat well suited to families and groups of friends. Everyone has somewhere to retreat to at the end of the day, while the shared rooms give you plenty of opportunities to get together.

Maybe your group starts the morning slowly over breakfast. Someone else might already be getting ready for the slopes. Later, you can all meet again for lunch, a treatment or a drink by the fire.

What makes the stay particularly easy is the space around you. You do not have to keep finding somewhere to go. If you want a quiet afternoon, stay in. If you feel like exploring, Méribel is there when you are ready.

THE MOUNTAINS

Skiing is an obvious reason to come to Méribel. From here, you have access to the Three Valleys and its extensive network of pistes, giving you plenty of choice whether you prefer gentle runs or a full day in the mountains.

Get your equipment ready, head out early and stay on the slopes until you have had enough. When the weather is good, you might decide to make a whole day of it.

For days when you would rather have someone else organise things, ski instructors and mountain guides can be arranged. Your team can also help with transport and other activities, so you can spend more time enjoying the mountains and less time working out what comes next.

Winter is not the only time to visit. Once the snow disappears, hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities give you a different way to see the Méribel valley.

WELLNESS & RELAXATION

Once you come back from the mountains, the spa gives you a good excuse not to do much else. Start with the sauna, spend some time in the steam room or book a treatment and let the afternoon take its own pace.

Outside, the hot tubs are particularly inviting when the temperature drops. You can sit in the warm water with the mountains around you and simply stay there until dinner.

There is a fitness area as well, for those mornings when you want to exercise before heading out. A short workout might be all you need.

Then again, you may decide that doing nothing is a better use of your time. Find a comfortable spot, take in the view and enjoy having nowhere else to be.

DINING & EVENINGS

You do not need to worry about where to eat every night. A private chef prepares your meals around the way your group likes to eat, whether that means a relaxed breakfast, afternoon tea or a longer dinner after skiing.

Gather around the dining table when everyone is ready. You can take your time over dinner rather than trying to fit around restaurant timings.

The evening might continue beside the fire with a glass of wine. Perhaps someone stays at the table talking while the rest of the group moves into one of the lounges.

When the weather allows, step outside onto the terrace. The mountains become quieter as the evening sets in, and there is something particularly nice about sitting outdoors after a full day in the snow.

You can also let the team arrange activities, transport and other plans when you want to venture beyond the property.
