Kisawa
Mozambique
12 Bungalows
Kisawa Sanctuary gives you a very different kind of island stay. Set on 300 hectares at the southern end of Benguerra Island, the property sits between sand dunes, coastal vegetation and the clear waters of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Your residence is more like a private beach house than a hotel room, with its own space, pool and outdoor areas. Spend the day swimming, head out on the water or simply stay close to home and enjoy the beach.

YOUR STAY
You get plenty of space at Kisawa. The residences are spread across the landscape rather than grouped together, so you have your own little part of the island to settle into.
Choose from one, two or three-bedroom residences depending on the size of your group. Large bedrooms, dressing areas and natural stone bathrooms give you somewhere comfortable to retreat to after a day outside.
The design feels closely connected to Benguerra. Thatched roofs, timber, woven details and local craftsmanship bring the surroundings into the interiors, while large openings make it easy to move between inside and outside.
Step onto the deck in the morning and you are already outside. Have breakfast in the fresh air, take a dip in your pool or walk down towards the beach when you feel like getting closer to the water.
A personal Mini Moke gives you an easy way to get around the estate too. You can drive over to another part of the property, head towards the beach or simply take a little ride with no particular destination in mind.
BENGUERRA ISLAND & LIFE ON THE WATER
There is a lot to see around Benguerra Island. The sanctuary sits within the Bazaruto Archipelago, giving you access to beaches, reefs, open water and the wider marine environment.
Go snorkelling and see what is beneath the surface, or take a canoe out when the sea is calm. Diving gives you another way to explore the waters around the island.
Perhaps you would rather spend the afternoon on a traditional dhow. Head out across the archipelago, find a quiet stretch of water and stay out until you feel like coming back.
The dunes are worth exploring too. Walk along the sand in the cooler parts of the day, take in the views and come back to the sanctuary whenever you're ready.
Then again, you might not want an organised activity at all. Find a spot on the beach, settle down and let the afternoon pass.
POOL & WELLNESS
Your private pool gives you an easy place to cool off without leaving your residence. Take a swim before breakfast or spend a lazy afternoon moving between the pool, the deck and the beach.
The Kisawa Spa gives you another reason to slow down. Treatments can be arranged around your plans, whether you want a massage after a day on the water or a quieter wellness session.
For something more active, head to the fitness centre. You can get a workout in before the heat builds or use the rest of the day for exploring.
There are also outdoor spaces where you can stretch, read or simply sit in the shade.
After a busy day, though, you may find that doing very little works just as well. Take a shower, sit outside and watch the light change across the dunes.
FOOD & EVENINGS
Meals are arranged around you, so breakfast doesn't have to start at the same time every morning. If you're heading out early, eat before you leave. On slower days, take your time.
Your culinary team prepares menus around your preferences, using fresh ingredients and dishes suited to the setting. You can keep things simple at lunch or sit down for a longer dinner in the evening.
The Main Terrace gives you a place to eat and spend time together, while Baracca offers a more relaxed setting closer to the beach.
Maybe dinner is followed by drinks outside. Perhaps you head back to your residence and stay there for the rest of the evening.
There is no need to make every night an occasion. Some of the best evenings are simply good food, a bottle of something you enjoy and the sound of the ocean nearby.
PRIVACY & SERVICE
Kisawa is spread across a large private area, so you are not constantly surrounded by other guests. Your residence gives you your own space, while the beaches and wider island provide plenty of room to get away when you want some time alone.
A dedicated team looks after you throughout the stay. Your personal butler can help organise meals, activities, transport and the smaller details that make the day easier.
Want to go diving tomorrow? Ask. Fancy a dhow trip instead? That can be arranged. Perhaps you would rather spend the entire day around your residence. That's fine too.
Getting to the island can be arranged from Vilankulo, with private transfers and helicopter connections available depending on your plans.
Once you're settled in, you can make the stay as active or as slow as you like. There is a lot to explore, but nobody is expecting you to see it all.
