YOUR STAY

The first thing you notice at Amangiri is how closely the buildings fit into the landscape. Stone, concrete and timber echo the colours around you, while large windows keep the desert in view.

Your suite feels much the same. Clean lines and natural materials keep the interiors calm, but there is nothing cold about them. Outdoor lounges, fireplaces and private terraces give you plenty of reasons to spend time outside your room.

Some suites come with private pools or rooftop terraces, while the Amangiri Suite has its own large lap pool, sun deck and sky terrace.

You could spend most of the day exploring the surrounding desert. Then again, staying close to your suite has its advantages too. Read outside, take a swim, order something to eat and watch the light move across the rocks.

The resort is also close to some of the American Southwest's best-known landscapes, including Lake Powell and the Grand Staircase-Escalante area. Page Municipal Airport is around 25 minutes away by car.

THE DESERT AROUND YOU

Walk out of Amangiri and the landscape immediately becomes part of your day. The resort offers guided hikes as well as routes you could explore on your own, so you don't always need a fixed itinerary.

Perhaps you'll head out early before the heat builds. A private guide could take you deeper into the canyon country, or you could spend the morning hiking closer to the resort.

There is plenty beyond walking, too. Depending on what you want to do, activities around the area include horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and Via Ferrata experiences. Lake Powell also gives you the option of spending time on the water.

For something slower, find a spot outside and let the landscape do the work. The desert is remarkably quiet, particularly once the sun starts to go down.

SPA & WELLNESS

The Aman Spa covers 2,322 square metres, giving you a substantial space to slow down after a day outside. Inside, you'll find treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities, a Watsu pool, floatation facilities, yoga spaces and a gym.

Start with a treatment, spend some time in the Water Pavilion and then take things slowly afterwards. There is no reason to squeeze everything into one afternoon.

A daily group wellness class is included with your stay, while the fitness centre is available whenever you want to train. Guided hikes are also included, so you could easily build a few active mornings into your time here.

The setting helps too. Even while you're inside, the desert is never far away.

DINING & EVENINGS

Meals at Amangiri draw on the flavours of the American Southwest, with locally sourced ingredients used where possible. The main restaurant gives you somewhere to sit down properly after a day outside, while private dining is available when you'd prefer something more personal.

Breakfast could be slow and easy before you head out for the day. Lunch might come after a morning hike, while dinner gives everyone a chance to sit down together and talk about what they got up to.

Then there's the Desert Lounge. Come here around sunset, find a comfortable seat and watch the last light move across the mesas.

Later in the evening, the desert gives you another reason to stay outside. With so little around the resort, looking up at the night sky becomes part of the experience rather than something you have to plan.

Amangiri gives you plenty of space without making the stay feel overly formal. The suites are spread through the desert landscape, and the architecture naturally creates a sense of separation between spaces.
